Treat Your Valentine to a Special Day in Bethesda

Local restaurants often limit reservations on this special day... or should I say weekend. Chefs often prepare a 'prix fixe' menu, and other restaurants are as casual as you want your evening to be. Bethesda and nearby areas including North Bethesda, Rockville, and even as far as Gaithersburg, are host to family owned and operated restaurants. You are sure to enjoy a meal where heart and soul have been added to your meal. Why not, give a local restaurant a try? Below are some of my favorites... Mon Ami Gabi on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda serves french cuisine. Right next door,  Pizzeria Da Marco serves small plates and delicious wood fired pizza. Grilled Oyster Co. in Cabin John Shopping Center...

Thanksgiving Tips for a Tooth-Friendly Holiday

This Thanksgiving, your food choices - many of which are not especially healthy, could make for unwanted calories and potential dental issues. Choose Healthified Appetizers As you prepare the meal for your guests, consider putting out a plate of crudités, cheese cubes and mixed nuts. A mixed platter of various cheeses is good for teeth, because it contains strength-building calcium. Casein, a protein found in milk products, fortifies the surfaces of teeth, helping to prevent cavities. Nuts contain calcium and minerals that strengthen, but whole nuts can also be a nuisance for your restorative crowns and bridges. On the positive side, chewing  hard, crunchy nuts also produces extra saliva, which fights germs and prevents tooth decay. Raw vegetables also produce...

Your Dental Health Survival Guide for Halloween

With Halloween comes ghosts, goblins and goodies — and the sugar in those treats can play unwanted tricks on your teeth and dental restorations if you’re not careful. Here’s why: The bacteria in your mouth are more excited to eat Halloween candy than you are. When bacteria zones in on the sugar and leftover food in your mouth, a weakening acid is produced. To Floss or Not to Floss…

In August of 2016, the New York Times posted an article of whether flossing your teeth actually makes a difference in your oral hygiene. Dr. Denise Malcomson strongly believes that daily flossing prevents many things such as; mal odor, food particles lodging between teeth, bacteria that ultimately could cause gum disease and tooth decay. Here's what another dentist said, "Wayne Aldredge, President of the Periodontists' group, acknowledged the weak scientific evidence and the brief duration of many studies. In an interview at his private practice in New Jersey, he said that the impact of floss might be clearer if researchers...
