Summer in the National Capital area offers a vast array of camps. Local camps range from sports themed to religious, adventure to academic, as well as musical to babysitting.  The Bethesda Magazine has a yearly Summer Camp Guide and Yelp! hosts reviews of top rated, local camps. 

Babysitting courses are offered through the American Red Cross and Safe Sitter, Inc. at local schools and hospitals for children ages 11+. Maryland Law states that children under age 8 cannot be left home alone for any reason. Children age 8 or older can be left home alone for short periods of time, as long as a parent or other adult can be contacted. Short periods of time could be before or after school, not an entire day. These courses can be informative for children who may be at home alone. Parents must use their own discretion. Children under the age of 13 cannot babysit, even for brothers and/or sisters. A child age 13 can babysit, although the regulations do not specify for how long.

Bach to Rock offers weekly, semi-weekly and daily camps for your musician in training. Locations vary throughout the metro area.

Private schools in the metro area host a variety of summer camps. Here are a few; Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, Sidwell Friends and The Butler School in GermantownSibling discounts are available for many camps, including Camp JCC – one of Montgomery County’s finest summer day camps located in Rockville, Maryland at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington. If your child would like to try a new sport, or fine tune their athletic skills in a particular sport; Georgetown Preparatory Camps range from co-ed golf to lacrosse, field hockey and tennis. Headfirst Camps and Landon‘s summer camps are also well-known sports camps for your “athletes in training.”

Younger children (Grades 1-8) might enjoy, Summer at Norwood which will broaden your child’s summer experience in a variety of ways. Children can learn through music, science (S.T.E.M.), debate and public speaking, fine tune their culinary skills, rock climb, and have overnight camping adventures!
